Climate Resilience Engagement Associate

The Climate Resilience Engagement Associate will join Charles River Watershed Association’s (CRWA) growing Climate Resilience program team to engage watershed residents in advancing community-driven stormwater and climate resilience projects and climate-smart policies across the watershed. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of environmental justice, education, community engagement, and advocacy while learning about climate adaptation strategies.

This is a full-time position that reports to the Senior Climate Resilience Associate. This position is a hybrid remote/in-office position located in CRWA’s Boston office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and lead community outreach events, workshops, and educational presentations for diverse audiences, to advance CRWA’s mission and projects in partnership with residents and other organizations

  • Attend public meetings and participate in climate planning and advocacy efforts that build resilience across the watershed

  • Collaborate with towns, residents, and community partners to identify opportunities for climate resilience and stormwater management practices and help advance them (e.g., Green Stormwater Infrastructure, wetland restoration, regional planning)

  • Maintain, build, and strengthen relationships with existing and new community-based partners

  • Support CRWA’s Charles River Climate Compact activities

  • Support development of outreach materials, including flyers, newsletters, and social media content, to promote climate resilience programs, projects, and events

  • Conduct work in accordance with CRWA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and support implementation of the Charles River Climate Compact (CRCC) Equity Plan

  • Support grant writing and reporting

  • Other administrative duties as required

  • Collaborate with other CRWA staff to support other CRWA programs as needed, including occasional fieldwork

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational background in environmental science/studies, climate adaptation, or a related field

  • Paid or volunteer experience with community engagement, community organizing, and planning community events

  • Experience or background with environmental or climate justice issues strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated strong, clear communication skills, including the ability to communicate about CRWA’s mission and work to the public

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people from all backgrounds

  • Multilingual candidates preferred

  • Demonstrated high level of courtesy and professionalism

  • Commitment to CRWA’s mission

  • Proficiency in Google GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Canva

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS is a plus

  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, within a 40-hour workweek

  • This position requires regular travel across the watershed; therefore, a valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle are preferred to perform the community-based functions of this role

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position based in Boston with competitive salary and benefits, including generous paid time off, employer contributions to health insurance premiums and retirement plan, and a public transit stipend. CRWA’s office operates on a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. Starting salary for this position is $60,000 annually.
