U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will join U.S. Senator Ed Markey, Charles River Watershed Association, Mystic River Watershed Association, Neponset River Watershed Association, state and local leaders, and community partners to announce the 2022 Water Quality Report Card Grades for the three rivers that flow into Boston Harbor––the Neponset, the Charles, and the Mystic.
This year’s theme is “Working Together for Water Quality”––speakers will highlight successes, challenges, and ongoing efforts to restore water quality in these three cherished urban rivers. Special focus will be on how weather extremes of drought, heat, and increased precipitation over the past three years impact river health, safe recreation, and enjoyment of these rivers––and how close partnership at the local, state, and federal levels is necessary to advance on-the-ground solutions like green infrastructure and create green jobs.
Speakers include U.S. Senator Ed Markey, U.S. EPA New England Regional Director David Cash, MA DEP Commissioner Bonnie Heiple, MA DCR Commissioner Brian Arrigo, a representative for MWRA Executive Director Fred Laskey, Charles River Watershed Association Executive Director Emily Norton, Mystic River Watershed Association Executive Director Patrick Herron, Neponset River Watershed Association Executive Director Ian Cooke, X-Cel Conservation Corps Director Don Sands, and Hartman Deetz, member of Mashpee Wampanoag tribe.
Local community organizations, school groups, and members of the public are welcome to join us. Please pre-register below.
