A Successful Summer of Invasive Species Removal!
This summer’s invasive removal programs were a smashing success!
With over 750 volunteer hours from our extraordinary volunteers and corporate sponsors, we removed an incredible 4,500 pounds of invasive water chestnuts from the Lakes District of the Charles River in Newton. In fact, we were so successful that the Lakes Region is effectively clear from water chestnut and we will be moving to Red Wing Bay next season. This season, our volunteers also removed a massive amount of invasive bittersweet vines from Watertown, Needham, and Millis. Together, these efforts bring us one step closer to a fully restored Charles River.
This incredible impact was only made possible by our ~ 250 volunteers and corporate sponsors, our star volunteer leaders Larry Smith, Nathan Phillips, Chuck and Dianne Cossaboom, and Damon Carter, our Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator Andrew Taylor, and donors like you who go above and beyond to support our work.
