Celebrating Black History Month

It’s Black History Month! We are celebrating Black history and Black voices in the communities surrounding our watershed and beyond.

At the CRWA, we are dedicated to making the Charles River a clean and resilient watershed for all, which means promoting environmental equity as we face a changing climate together. There is no separating environmental justice (a movement deeply intertwined with Black history) from racial justice.

How can I celebrate Black History Month?

Many Black History Month events are happening around Boston, which are fantastic opportunities to learn about the rich history of how Black leaders have shaped our communities and how their influences remain relevant today. February is an opportunity to celebrate Black joy by attending the Boston Globe’s 4th annual Black History Month Film Festival. You can also celebrate Black History Month through your reading list! The Boston Public Library Special Collections highlights works from Black authors and artists within their collections, or you can take the recommendations from three Boston writers about what to read this Black History Month. You can support Black-owned local businesses by participating in the Boston Black Restaurant Challenge by dining weekly at a Black-owned food and drink establishment in Boston. Whichever way you choose to show your support, be sure to celebrate Black History Month!
