Clearing the Current– Tackling Invasive Aquatic Plants
Attention all boaters! Low-dose herbicide treatment for aquatic invasive species began TODAY, Thursday, August 18th at 9 AM in the Lower Basin (from Watertown to the Harbor) and Lakes District (Newton to Waltham).
Treatment will target milfoil, a fast-growing, non-native plant that degrades water quality, reduces biodiversity, and impedes safe recreation. Part of our five-year management plan with the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), this is the first of several treatments that are only possible with your vital support.
What does it mean for you? You can still paddle on the Charles, as low-dose herbicides are generally considered safe for humans to come in contact with. Please avoid treatment boats so they can work quickly and efficiently! Learn more about what to expect during treatment.
