Thank you for joining us! Stormwater Solutions Coming to Cheesecake Brook

It was a chilly but beautiful Tuesday morning on January 21 when we toured Cheesecake Brook with the Native Fish Coalition (NFC), a group dedicated to preserving and restoring native fish populations and their habitats. It was great to see the brook through their eyes, including the ripples and pools created by sloughed-off turf and debris. Talking with Bob and his team got us excited to think about short-term opportunities for improvements within the existing walls of the brook and to imagine a future where the brook might support both native minnow populations as well as breeding smelt and herring. We will be working with the NFC this coming year to use eDNA to assess fish presence above and below the slab that acts as a barrier to fish passage into the Brook.

On Tuesday evening, we hosted a public meeting to give some project updates and get feedback on upcoming outreach and project opportunities. Big thanks to all the neighbors who braved the cold or joined us online.

A couple highlights to look forward to in the coming year:

  • 47,000 CF of new storage and Infiltration to prevent pollution and flooding from the craft street neighborhood.

  • Removal and retrofit of 10 asphalt gutters sending roadway runoff into the brook.

  • Over 40,000 SF of new native bank plantings.
