U.S. Senator Ed Markey, EPA, State, and Watershed Associations to Announce Annual Water Quality Report Cards for Three Boston Rivers (MEDIA ADVISORY)
JULY 28, 2023: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON, MA––On August 3, 2023, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will join U.S. Senator Ed Markey, Charles River Watershed Association, Mystic River Watershed Association, Neponset River Watershed Association, state and local leaders, and community partners to announce the 2022 Water Quality Report Card Grades for the three rivers that flow into Boston Harbor––the Neponset, the Charles, and the Mystic.
This year’s theme is “Working Together for Water Quality”––speakers will highlight successes, challenges, and ongoing efforts to restore water quality in these three cherished urban rivers. Special focus will be on how weather extremes of drought, heat, and increased precipitation over the past three years impact river health, safe recreation, and enjoyment of these rivers––and how close partnership at the local, state, and federal levels is necessary to advance on-the-ground solutions like green infrastructure and create green jobs.
