Indigenous-led Paddle on the Quinobequin

On June 29 we partnered with Indigenous Peoples Day (IPD) Newton for the second annual Quinobequin Intertribal Paddle, bringing together Indigenous community members, river enthusiasts, and environmental advocates to celebrate our shared commitment to protecting the Charles River and its natural flow. Check out news coverage here and the video here. And be sure to check out IPD Newton’s work to celebrate and amplify Indigenous voices.

“In being on the water, you also engage with the geese, with the heron, with the herring, with, you know, the hawks and the turtles and all the different life that comes through this water,” said Hartman Deetz, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe and environmental advocate. “So it’s an important thing, not to just have a river be an abstract thing that we talk about over here, but to be with it.”

Charles River

Charles River Watershed Association’s mission is to use science, advocacy, and the law to protect, restore, and enhance the Charles River and its watershed. We develop science-based strategies to increase resilience, protect public health, and promote environmental equity as we confront a changing climate.
