ACTION ALERT: Show Support at the First Official Watertown Square Vote

The revised Watertown Square redesign and zoning outline have been released. The Steering Committee supports the passage of this plan at the joint hearing of the City Council and Planning Board. CRWA and Housing for All Watertown encourage all who support more housing, a more walkable and bikeable community and a more vibrant downtown to join in person or by Zoom to advocate for its passage. To make the meeting more accessible, the city will provide a child-friendly space for those with childcare responsibilities.

Why support this plan?

This plan allows increased housing development in the Square, initiating a revitalization of Watertown's core. It promotes more Watertown residents living in a walkable, transit-rich neighborhood, aligning with the city's long-term climate objectives. Additionally, it identifies parcels prime for future redevelopment while preserving the Square's character and heritage.

Resulting from one of the city’s most comprehensive and inclusive public processes to date, the Watertown Square plan embodies thoughtful compromises that respect diverse viewpoints. Notably, two-thirds of residents back its fundamental components, as indicated by city polls.

This plan underscores Watertown's ongoing role as a regional trailblazer, demonstrating moral leadership and practical commitment. Addressing the housing shortage, advancing climate objectives, and fostering a vibrant downtown positions the city for economic growth and potential increased investment in public transportation.
